In Sugar Land, Texas, a woman was driving down the road when the unthinkable happened. As the driver prepared to go under an overpass, a big rig reportedly fell off of the highway above and crushed the woman’s car. Despite the seriousness of the accident, neither driver appeared to sustain injuries; however, both drivers are currently receiving medical examination for possible internal injuries.
Police say the truck driver was cruising down Highway 59 when an SUV pulled up behind him. The police reported that the SUV was driving erratically, making lane changes at high speeds during heavy rainfall. The SUV’s driver ended up colliding with the truck, which caused the big rig to hit another car, hydroplane into a jackknife, and run into the side railing before toppling over the railing onto the street below. The truck flipped while in the air and landed on top of the Toyota Camry, crushing the top of the car.
Thankfully, the trailer of the truck was empty and therefore did not completely crush the Camry. A witness said that she was able to assist the driver in getting out of her car through the back window. The driver was immediately taken to the hospital from there. As the truck had flipped, the truck driver also had to crawl out of his cab to escape the overturned vehicle. The trucker was also taken to the hospital immediately following the crash.
A third woman’s car was hit by part of the truck. The back half of her car sustained some damage, but ultimately she did not sustain injury. She stated that she was thankful that her kids were not in the car with her at the time of the accident.
At this time, the driver of the SUV has not been found or detained.
