An accident involving an 18-wheeler and a passenger bus on Wednesday afternoon left two people dead and 30 people injured. The accident occurred on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 near Weimar, Texas about halfway between San Antonio and Houston.
According to a spokesperson with the Department of Public Safety, the bus rear-ended the 18-wheeler and caused the truck to slam into a passenger vehicle. It is not known what caused the bus to hit the 18-wheeler, but one possibility is that the bus driver did not notice that the highway had narrowed to one lane due to construction.
All of the victims that were injured or killed in the accident were aboard the bus.
Parts of I-10 have been closed due to the wreck, so all eastbound traffic is being re-routed on US-90 while officials investigate the scene.
We will continue to post updates to this story as they develop.
