Born in Provo, Utah, Jake Balser is the second of six children. He’s been competitive and driven since a young age and excelled academically as well as in football, baseball, and soccer. After he graduated from high school, Jake deferred athletic and academic scholarships so that he could serve as an LDS missionary in Ukraine. Jake taught himself how to speak Russian during his two years there.
Inspired by his time in Ukraine, Jake returned home to earn a bachelor’s degree in Russian studies at Brigham Young University. Jake’s time at BYU sparked his interest in the law, and he returned east to spend time interning in Moscow, Russia for an international human rights organization and NGO focused on government transparency and the nonproliferation of nuclear weapons. In Russia, Jake saw how the law could hold even the most powerful figures accountable and help those who truly are in need. After his time in Russia, Jake knew that he wanted to pursue a legal career focused on helping others.
When Jack returned to the United States, he enrolled in Georgetown University to study law. In Georgetown, Jake built legal experience by interning at the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah for the Honorable Robert J. Shelby. He also served as an online development editor for The American Criminal Law Review.
During his second year of law school, Jake began working as a law clerk for Arnold & Itkin. After seeing the passion, integrity, and determination that the attorneys of Arnold & Itkin have for their work, Jake knew that he was in the right place. He was proud to join Arnold & Itkin as an attorney upon being admitted to the Texas Bar in November of 2018.
At Arnold & Itkin, Jake uses his experiences to fight for those who are wrongfully suffering from the neglectful actions of others. He knows that the law works for those who need it and makes sure it is used to fight for survivors of truck accidents.
During his free time, Jake enjoys road trips with his wife and daughter, reading Louis L’Amour, playing sports, and listening to his growing record collection. Jake and his family reside in Houston, Texas.
“At Arnold & Itkin, we are honored when people feel they can turn to us in the most difficult moments of their lives. When something bad happens and your world feels like it’s coming apart, we do more than take your case—we take your side and fight for you harder than anyone else.”
