New Jersey School Bus Crash Leaves 2 Dead, 45 Injured

Earlier this morning, a school bus carrying fifth graders on a field trip crashed in Mount Olive Township while traveling on I-80. The bus violently crashed into a dump truck shortly before 10:30 EST, leaving dozens injured and at least 2 confirmed dead.

Authorities have not released the identities of the fatally injured victims, but they have said that one was an adult, and one was a child. There are approximately still a dozen passengers in the hospital—at least one suffered critical injuries.

The bus was traveling from East Brook Middle School in Paramus. They were headed to Waterloo Village, a restored 19th-century town. Two other buses were traveling there from the school, neither of which were harmed. In photos from the scene, the school bus was lying on its side in the median, the front end of the bus ripped up and separated from the passenger section.

Authorities are currently gathering information about the cause of the crash—the Paramus Police Department set up a hotline for anyone who witnessed the collision to share information.

Our hearts go out to the victims of the crash and their families—we hope they get answers soon.
