One week ago Sunday, a young Texas woman was killed in a head on truck
accident. Laura Beth Botkin, 27, was the passenger of another vehicle
and as pickup truck drove down the wrong lane, it crashed directly into
their car. It is said that the driver of her car did not die in the accident
though he received critical injuries, as did the driver of the truck responsible
for the accident, Jose Marmolejo Jr. It is suspected that a major cause
of Botkin’s death was a result of her not wearing a seatbelt, and
the moment their car was hit; she was immediately ejected from the vehicle.
This young lady is remembered for her musical talent, having received a
Masters of Voice and Music from Rice University, and was involved in her
local church choir, and also taught at a theater for voice. Laura’s
involvement in the community was admired, and she will be missed. Though
the investigation for the truck accident is still pending, the police
are highly suspicious that the pickup truck driver was
under the influence. This suspicion is due to his driving record, Marmolejo currently has
a warrant out for a previous DWI charge. It is likely that his poor decision
to be under the influence led to the loss of a precious life.
