On Saturday afternoon, a bus accident left 8 people dead and 44 people injured in South Texas. According to DPS troopers, the accident occurred on Highway 83 near the county line between Dimmit and Webb Counties.
It has been described as a rollover where the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The charter bus, owned by OGA Charters, had been traveling from the Rio Grande Valley area to Kickapoo Lucky Casino Hotel in Eagle Pass at the time.
7 people died at the scene and another died at the hospital. 15 people were transported to Laredo Medical Center with an unknown amount of injuries while 7 were taken to a hospital in Dimmit County and 22 others were sent to Doctors Hospital.
While it was raining at the time, it is unsure what caused the crash. No other vehicles were involved.
The northbound lanes reopened three hours after the accident.
